Persuasion in Persuasion

Appropriately following the title of the novel Persuasion, the reader is introduced to persuasion in the first chapters in a scene with Anne, Lady Russell, and Mr. Shepard. They try to convince Sir Walter that he should leave Kellynch Hall, but they try to sway is opinion using vanity. The family dynamics and the elements of persuasion are exemplified, especially in the example previously described that uses not so practical means to influence practical decisions. The underlying theme thus far in the novel regarding persuasion is the balance between taking suggestions from others and remaining true to your own beliefs. The wavering opinions of some characters regarding this notion of persuasion leave the reader to ultimately impose his/her beliefs regarding persuasion as a positive or negative tool.
